With the mission to provide safe and easy movement of people and goods from place to place, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) supports the state highway system and promotes transportation initiatives statewide. As a more than $3 billion per year enterprise, ODOT invests the bulk of its resources in system preservation through maintenance, construction, and snow and ice operations.
This presentation will provide an update on activities and an overview of various programs within ODOT that help keep our intrastate highway system safe.
Michelle May has been a member of the Ohio Department of Transportation for more than 33 years, serving in communication and program management roles. For the past 15 years, Ms. May has managed ODOT’s $158 million Highway Safety Program, which provides technical expertise and funding to state and local governments to improve high-crash and severe-crash roads. Keri Welch is a Professional Engineer and currently serves as District 12’s Planning Engineer. During her 8 years working with ODOT, she has worked as bridge engineer, project manager, and the District Traffic and Safety Engineer. Keri is the chairperson for the District’s Safety Review Team who provides updates on all safety related items in the district, and adopts the Annual Safety Workplan for Cuyahoga, Lake and Geauga Counties.
