There are occasions when you may have to hire an outside contractor to complete a project at your company/organization. A project that may be too big for your employees to handle or one that may be beyond their capabilities or expertise. In either case, you may look to hire an outside contractor. There are procedures or processes that you can implement to weed out undesirable and unsafe contractors but what about those who pass your initial muster and now are ready to come work at your property. Are you sure that you have done enough to protect your organization and more importantly your employees?
This presentation will define what is meant by a contractor and outline the types and roles of contractors; outline how the duties, roles and responsibilities of your company/organization and your contractors should be structured, and outline the principles of managing the health and safety of contractors prior to, and during their work at your site.
Tom Neff worked at Rockwell Automation for close to 35 years and held several positions including the EH&S Manager when he retired in 2018. He currently works for our Safety Council as an Instructor and consultant. Jim Chambers is currently a Site Safety Manager for Aramark Facility Services. Jim is super passionate about safety and treats it as one of his key underlying values. If you catch him not doing anything safety related, he’s likely playing a mean air guitar.
